Perform general office duties; staff displays at special events; help organize and/or participate in the "Walk for Memories" on the last Sunday in May

Options for Volunteers:

1) "Thumbody" program - provided to grade three students to introduce the concept of self-esteem. 
2)  To serve on the CMHA (Miramichi branch) board.

Volunteers are needed for the Senior Services Program which offers Friendly Visiting and reassuring telephone calls to seniors who are living alone in the Miramichi area.

Options for Volunteers:

1) Musical Group to entertain seniors one afternoon a month at the Chatham Legion. 
2) Present programs of interest to people 55 and over.

Life Line (outreach from Miramichi Senior Citizen’s Home)

Options for Volunteers:

Install life line units (pendants worn around the neck that can connect you to a help line 24 hours a day).  Training will be provided.

Meals on Wheels (outreach from Miramichi Senior Citizen’s Home)

To deliver meals to the homes of senior citizens & disabled people.

Monday to Friday - 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. – 8 to 10 stops per day.  1 day a month or whatever you can spare.  Deliveries are not done on storm days (usually coincide with the cancellation of school)

MIRAMICHI YOUTH HOUSE

The Youth House is a community-based, not for profit organization, which believes action is needed to create a safe and secure environment for all youth, by providing opportunities for youth-at-risk to develop and grow positively within their family, their community and their school.

Options for Volunteers:

Volunteers are needed for:

1.  To teach programs or skills such as cooking, yoga, martial arts, healthy relationships, budgeting, student loans etc. etc.

2.  To act as Board members of the organization. Board members meet once a month to review the plans/budget for the house and are active in fundraising events.

MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH FOUNDATION INC.

The Foundation is affliated with the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home (see below).  The purpose of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life for the reisdents by raising funds that support financial needs of the Home not provided for elsewhere.  These needs may include beds, furniture, diagnostic and therapuetic equipment.  See more information and volunteer opportunities on their website - click here.

2) Bus driver's assistant must be physically fit

Schizophrenia Society of New Brunswick

Options for Volunteers:

1.  Walk of Hope - fundraiser, annual first Sunday in May

2.  Cow Patty Bingo-Family Fun Day - fundraiser, held annually at MacDonald Farm Historical Park.

3.  Book Lover's Fall Fair - fundraiser, held annually every fall at Northumberland Square Mall.

Options for Volunteers:

1.  The Salvation Army Thirft Store - Volunteers needed for:
a) Sorting donated items – requires standing or sitting for periods of time.
b) Janitorial duties – clean bathrooms, floors, windows, perimeter of building. 
c) Cutting rags or clean shoes – required to sit, use scissors & cleaning products. 
d) Customer Service/cashier – experience an asset – training provided. 
e) Assisting driver with furniture pick up and deliveries – lift over 20 pounds.

2.  Friendship Suppers -

A hot meal is provided on Mondays and Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. at the Salvation Army from October thru May.  Teams of 3-4 volunteers are needed to:

Purchase, prepare, serve and clean up at the Friendship Suppers.  This may be done on a regular schedule or as a one time event

Time Commitment:

The Thrift Store is open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 4:30, Saturday 10:00 to 3:00.  You can work part or full time days.  No limit on hours.  Volunteers will be scheduled by the store manager, as needed, based on their skills and availability.

For the Friendship Suppers the time committment depends on frequency of involvement.

Screening:

Go in person to complete & submit registration form.  You must sign a confidentiality statement and provide 2 references (non-family).  If approved a criminal record check will be needed.
